Tennis: Lints on a roll as he wins fifth title in succession

Jonathan Lints made it five titles on the bounce by lifting the Men’s Singles title at the fifth Stewart Milne Group Indoor Championships at the Westburn Centre in Aberdeen after squeezing through against the favourite Bruce Strachan, of Rubislaw.

The Westhill player recovered from the loss of the opening set to beat his younger opponent 5-7, 6-2, (11-9).

Naima Lightwood won the women’s event in her last tournament before moving to work in Brisbane. The Queen’s Club player beat Sheila Williams in straight sets. Williams now heads south for the British Veterans’ Championships in Dudley as part of a north-east contingent that includes Graeme Matthew, David Wood, Jimmy Wood and Brian Morgan.

Scottish juniors Jonny O’Mara and Jack Paterson both lost in the second round of the Men’s $15k AegonGB Pro-Series event at Scotstoun yesterday. O’Mara was beaten 6-2, 6-2 to second-seeded German, Sami Reinwein, while Frenchman Nicola Rosenzweig, brought up in Broughty Ferry, beat Paterson 6-2 6-1.
