Supporters hit by ticket change

THE SRU’s new attempts to improve the customer experience at Murrayfield have caused concern among loyal fans after it emerged that those who had bought RBS Six Nations tickets earlier this year would not be able to choose their seats.

Since taking over as SRU chief executive in September, Mark Dodson has worked quickly to implement new supporter-friendly initiatives and this week he announced a new interactive ticket system where supporters can choose where to sit.

However, supporters who bought their tickets for the RBS Six Nations as soon as they went on sale have contacted The Scotsman after being told they will not be allowed to choose where they sit. One supporter, who did not wish to be named, said: “The SRU’s latest ticket wheeze sounds great but it is a bit of a kick in the teeth for those of us who bought tickets early.

“I bought tickets for the Six Nations games back in the summer, when they first went on sale as I always do. I am now very disappointed to be told that those who buy their tickets for the France game now, just 11 weeks or so before the game, can choose where they want to sit but those of us who helped the SRU out by buying our tickets in the summer will get them allocated anywhere in the stadium and don’t have a chance to choose.

“The new interactive idea is great, but the way it has come in is another example of the SRU failing to look after its loyal supporters.”

SRU director of communications and public affairs Dominic McKay insisted that the loyal supporters remained important to the union and they would now be given the chance to choose where they sit.

He stated: “I would encourage these supporters to get in touch with our ticketing team and we will try and accommodate any request for seat changes, but tickets are selling well so I would encourage them to do that quickly.”
