Success is a family affair for Farnoods

BADMINTON: History was made at the Edinburgh Primary School Championships when, for a first time, a brother and sister became singles champions.

Lily Farnood, a Primary 7 pupil at Corstorphine Primary, won the girls’ title and younger brother Michael, in Primary 6, lifted the boys’ trophy.

They are both members of the Tall Oaks Junior Club based at Forrester High Sports Hub. In the final, Lily beat Rachel Andrew of George Watson’s 21-13, while Michael defeated Royal High’s Seamus Russell 21-18 in his final.

Lily and Michael then went on to help Edinburgh retain the Scottish Inter Area Primary Championship at Ravenscraig Sports Centre. It all came down to the final match with Edinburgh beating Mid East 4-1 to win on a countback.
