Strathmore juniors are up to scratch

GOLF: Perth and Kinross county men run the Junior Scratch League – and they must be applauded in making the innovative decision to allow girls to be included in the team squads.

With a mixed squad that includes 12-year-old Kirsty Brodie, Strathmore Juniors claimed victory in the 2012 event, defeating Auchterarder in the final over the Queen’s course at Gleneagles.

Under the guidance of Junior Convenor Iain Butchart, Strathmore has only been in the league for four years.

Kirsty didn’t play in the final, but she has had a great season. She plays off ten and in the 36-hole final of the Strathmore Ladies’ Championship she overcame Dawn Butchart (Iain’s wife) with the final putt on the 36th hole.

Kirsty has already been recognised at national level. She is a member of the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association’s Prospect Squad.

Hannah Robb, who plays off five, did line-up in the final, but came up a tough opponent in Auchterarder’s Steven Young.
