Stirling County 31 - 22 Boroughmuir: Sloppy play marrs County win

The importance of maintaining discipline was much in evidence as County edged a contest in which both sides were reckless at times.

The visitors’ repeated infringements during the opening half-hour provided Stirling centre Brian Archibald with three penalties which he gladly accepted. However, the home team gifted a struggling Boroughmuir points. First, Ally Warnock chipped over to reduce the deficit before Adam Sinclair was sin-binned and the resultant pressure led to a penalty try that Warnock goalled.

County restored their lead after the break when Boroughmuir again infringed, Archibald on target with the boot. Stirling made the most of the advantage in 60 minutes when a break carried Danny Gilmour almost to the line, flanker Tim Clarke being on hand to touchdown for a try to which Archibald added the extras.

Indiscipline was again to the fore, however, as Muir capitalised on County failings when Sean Crombie barged over, Warnock converting. But Stirling bounced back when Gilmour made it to the try line with ten minutes left, and Mike Doneghan iced the cake with a late breakaway that Archibald goalled. Crombie grabbed a consolation in injury time.
