Steven Davis keen to pocket more goals for Rangers

STEVEN DAVIS is hoping his goal against St Mirren will be the first of many after ending a long wait to open his account for the season.

The Rangers midfielder has spoken frequently in recent weeks of his desire to add goals to his game, having brought his tally to eight last term.

He squandered the opportunity to get off the mark when he missed from the penalty spot against Unirea Urziceni in the Champions League, before seeing a goal against Dundee United wiped from the records when the game was abandoned.

But the Northern Ireland international took just two minutes to set the ball rolling on a 2-0 win over the Buddies on Wednesday night and is now hoping to push on from there.

He said: "It's been very frustrating for me not to score and, the longer it goes on, the more frustrating it gets. I was maybe a bit lucky with the finish but that's the sort of thing I need to kick-start things and hopefully I get a few more between now and the end of the season.

Everybody wants to improve their game and I'm no different. I'm happy enough with my form but there are still things I need to work on. My finishing hasn't been up to scratch at times but, as long as I'm contributing to the team, and the team is doing well, that's the main thing."
