Statue homage to Kauto Star

HAYDOCK racecourse and Betfair have announced plans for a statue of Kauto Star to celebrate his achievements at the Merseyside track.

Sculptor Willie Newton has been commissioned to make a bronze of the 11-year-old in recognition of his four Betfair Chase victories at Haydock. His most recent success in the Grade One feature prompted emotional scenes as he rolled back the years to beat Gold Cup winner Long Run by eight lengths last month.

Owner Clive Smith said: “I am thrilled at this fantastic gesture.”
