SRU and Andy Robinson make plea for sports facility funding

SCOTLAND coach Andy Robinson helped Scottish rugby step up the pressure on the Scottish Government last night with a plea for more help to fund sports facilities across the country.

The coach was part of an SRU delegation hosted by Frank McAveety MSP, the former sports minister, at Holyrood, which sought to highlight the positive impact Scottish rugby is making to the country's economy to politicians across all parties.

McAveety was keen to highlight the effects of a year of unprecedented sporting activity at Murrayfield, from Six Nations games to Rugby League, and the Heineken Cup Final to world sevens, and he praised the SRU for its contribution to the Scottish economy, with the overall boost estimated at over 130 million through the events staged at Murrayfield in 2009.

However, the SRU used the stage to press MSPs to realise the benefits of improving the sporting infrastructure to the point where major events become a regular part of the Scottish sporting scene, because domestic teams are better-prepared and able to compete on the world stage.
