Squash: Flynn plans for the future with unveiling of performance squash squad

National squash coach Roger Flynn believes four East of Scotland youngsters are on track for the 2014 Commonwealth Games after being included in a newly-created performance squad based in Edinburgh.

The four - Dougie Kempsell (Waverley), Carrie Hallam (Sports Club), Gregor Vincent (Linlithgow) and Michael Jenkins (Watsonians) - have been selected to receive specialist coaching and fitness training every week at Edinburgh Sports Club under the supervision of Claire Kidd.

Once a month they will also join in with the National Junior Excellence Programme sessions at Heriot-Watt University.

Australian Flynn said: "Dougie is now No 2 in the country having benefitted from a lot of strength and conditioning work which is turning him into a world class athlete. Michael is emerging from a difficult period where he was experiencing a growth spurt and both Carrie and Gregor also have huge futures in squash."

Kempsell is a particularly strong contender for the Scottish junior international tournament being played at Heriot-Watt in the last few days of this year. Flynn added: "After finishing second to England at the last European under-17 championships we have particularly high hopes for a strong showing at the next year's under-19 competition and Dougie Kempsell will be expected to figure prominently in that event."
