Bonkers decision by Hibs to have a Kilmarnock blackout

Easter Road club would have brought in extra revenue by selling virtual tickets

Kilmarnock were raging their fans were not able to watch from afar as the team kicked off the season at Hibernian – and rightly so. It was a bonkers decision by Hibs not to make virtual tickets available.

The game wasn’t on Sky so this would have been permitted, but the club have chosen to only allow away supporters access to certain matches, and this wasn’t one of them.

Why? Judging by the anger over in Ayrshire, it would have brought them decent extra revenue. Imagine the number of virtual tickets Hibs could sell if Celtic or Rangers were visiting. Doubtless it would be a figure topping the 3,000-odd capacity of the away stand, but then I wouldn’t be surprised if they relax their rule for the Old Firm.

I know the phrase “football family” makes us groan after the summer-long infighting, but the blackout just seems mean.
