Speedy Boarding looks to get back on winning track

SPEEDY Boarding found Classic company too hot on her latest outing but can get back on the winning track in the EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies’ Stakes at Yarmouth.

James Fanshawe was suitably encouraged to take a steep hike in class with this Shamardal filly following her win in a Listed event at Newbury in June.

Pitched into the Irish Oaks, Speedy Boarding was still in contention with a couple of furlongs to run but the mile-and-a-half trip appeared to be at the edge of her stamina reserves as she dropped away while principal players were staying on.

She was not disgraced in being beaten six lengths by winner Covert Love, but the switch back to ten furlongs and a drop back to Listed class represents a logical step.

Speedy Boarding has a couple of pounds to find on Talmada but having just her fifth career start, she is open to plenty of further improvement.

Flying Hammer can bring up his hat-trick in the Sea-Deer Handicap. He overcame a troubled passage to steal victory at Kempton by a short head last month, only poking his nose in front on the line. A 6lb rise looks steep given the margin of victory, but Flying Hammer did well to win from an impossible position.

Elm Park is another Classic also-ran seeking redemption in the Racehorse Sanctuary Remembers Moorcroft Boy Fortune Stakes at Sandown. Andrew Balding’s charge looked sure to be a leading player in the Derby following his Royal Lodge and Racing Post Trophy victories last term and connections duly decided to bypass unsuitably quick ground in the 2000 Guineas to preserve their colt for an Epsom bid.

Reappearing in the Dante at York in May, he found superstar colt Golden Horn and his stablemate Jack Hobbs far too good after possibly racing a little too close to a testing early pace. Full faith was retained in his Epsom claims, though. He was far from unfancied come the big day back in June, but he gave himself no chance at all by trying to make all.

It was no surprise to see him pay for his early exertions as he dropped back through the field and the good-to-firm ground subsequently left its mark on Elm Park. Given plenty of time to get over that outing, he drops back to a mile and should find his chances boosted by a wet forecast and the fact he has no penalty for his Group One success of last year.
