Speedway: Scorpions first up for Monarchs

Edinburgh MONARCHS will face Scunthorpe Scorpions
in the first of their Premier League speedway play-off fixtures at Armadale this Friday, before travelling to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday for the return match (5pm start).

Monarchs’ other play-off
opponents, Workington Comets, are expected at Armadale on October 5 (subject to confirmation) with Monarchs visiting Derwent Park on October 13.

To accommodate the play-off programme, Monarchs have switched dates with Ipswich for their KO Cup semi-final clashes. Monarchs will now visit Foxhall Heath for the first leg on Thursday, October 4, and will host the deciding leg at Armadale on Friday, October 12.

Because of Monarchs’
involvement in the league and cup, promoter John Campbell thinks it is highly unlikely that this season’s Scottish Cup
challenges against Glasgow Tigers will take place.

“Glasgow offered us October 14 to travel through to Ashfield but the Premier League Riders’ Championship, which was washed out on Sunday, will now be re-staged on this date, so it’s uncertain if there will be any Scottish Cup action this season,” he said.

Monarchs are hoping to be at full strength against Scunthorpe, with both Craig Cook and Jozsef Tabaka expected back in the saddle following their five-week injury lay-offs. Cook intends to line up for his Elite League team Belle Vue Aces on Wednesday.
