Musselburgh snooker star Ross Muir is only two wins away from turning professional after reaching the Last 16 in Event 2 of Q School at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, defeating Gareth
Allen 4-2

Muir lost the first frame as Allen made a break of 55 but levelled at 1-1 after comfortably winning the second frame. Muir edged in front again
despite Allen making a run of 55 but Allen levelled the match at 2-2. Muir then took control of the match, winning the fifth before finishing with a magnificent run of 102. Muir will now meet England’s Mitchell Mann for a place in the quarter-finals.

Muir is the last Scot remaining in the event after Glasgow’s Dylan Craig lost out to Mann 4-2.

The four players who reach the semi-finals of the event in Sheffield will qualify for the World Snooker professional main tour.
