Snooker: Ross Vallance chalks up win over Muir

Corstorphine’s Ross Vallance remained on course to win his fourth East of Scotland Snooker title when he defeated Musselburgh teenager Ross Muir 3-1 it the Bert Demarco Matchroom at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

Vallance will now meet Bonnyrigg’s Mike Leslie in the semi-final. Leslie, father of professional snooker player Michael Leslie, recovered from losing the first frame to defeat Edinburgh’s David Greig 3-1 in the quarter-finals. Greig, who had his best ever run in the tournament, outlined his credentials by winning the opening frame with a run of 54, but Leslie used his greater experience to good effect winning three close frames to secure a 3-1 victory. In the other semi-final, Corstorphine’s Keith Chalmers, also a three-time winner of the event, will meet Penicuik’s Michael Gallacher. They play first tomorrow evening.

In the Billiards Championship, there was a shock when defending champion Jamie Jenkins went down to 250-226 to Bonnyrigg’s Alec Pedan. Pedan will now meet Kenny Baird in the last-four. In the other semi final, Leith’s Norman McLachlan will meet Edinburgh’s Hugh Eldon.
