Snooker: MacGillivray motors to Masters win

Granton snooker ace Craig MacGillivray maintained his excellent start to the Scottish snooker season to win Event 2 of the 2012/2013 Scottish Snooker Masters Series at The Locarno Snooker Club in Edinburgh after a 4-0 victory over Paul Jamieson (Dumfries).

The former professional player, who has now won three tournaments in quick succession after also winning both opening events in the Masters and Main Tour Series earlier this month, was in dominant form throughout the event, losing only a single frame in seven matches.

MacGillivray qualified comfortably from the group stages, defeating Edinburgh’s Derek Dudgeon 3-0 to book his place in Sunday’s quarter-final. The 40-year-old then raced to consecutive 4-0 victories over Scott Hughes (Falkirk) and Jim Rushforth (Stirling) before
defeating Jamieson to secure the title.

MacGillivray said “The start to the season I have had could not have been better.”

However, he had some luck after a damaged tip forced him to have to borrow another player’s cue. “Fortunately for me, I was already 2-0 up in the final when it happened,” he added.
