Snooker: Leslie cues up semi-final against Fernie

Bonnyrigg snooker star Michael Leslie is only one win away from reaching his first East of Scotland Championship final after a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Musselburgh teenager Ross Muir in the quarter-finals.

In a scrappy encounter, 18-year-old Leslie lost the first frame before winning the next two to take a one frame lead.

Muir looked as though he was going to level at 2-2, however in a pivotal point in the match, he missed a green into the middle bag to let Leslie in to clear up to the pink and win the frame. Leslie comfortably won the next frame to secure a 4-1 victory and a place in the semi-final against fellow Bonnyrigg youngster Ross Fernie, who defeated Scott Roarty 4-1.

In the bottom half of the draw, defending champion Ross Vallance of Corstorphine was in impressive form as he reached the quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Penicuik’s Michael Gallacher. Vallance, who is aiming to win the championship for the third time, plays Perth teenager Scott Donaldson tonight for a place in the semi-final against Bobby Cruickshanks (Perth) or Willie Mullen (Dunbar).

All matches are played in The Matchroom at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. The semi-finals will be played on Monday and Tuesday next week, with the final being played over best-of-nine frames next Friday.
