Snooker: Gallacher in narrow loss

Defending champion Eden Sharav of Alloa had to come from 3-2 behind last night against Penicuik's Michael Gallacher to seal a 4-3 win and a place in the semi-finals of the 2010 East of Scotland Snooker Championship.

Gallacher, who won the title six years ago, made the better start to win the opening frame without Sharav potting a ball.

But, despite being ahead three times in the match, Gallacher could not stretch his lead to more than one frame and lost out in a close sixth frame to take the match to a decider. Despite chances for both players, Sharav held his nerve to win the last frame comfortably.

Tonight, Edinburgh's Stuart Johnstone will aim to build on some recent good form against Perth 17-year-old Scott Donaldson for a chance to play Sharav.

The match commences at 7.00pm at The Matchroom in the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.
