Six Nations: Tom Brown keen to get Scots’ weekend off to a flyer

Rising Edinburgh Rugby Tom Brown is determined to help set the tone for a successful international weekend if handed a Scotland A debut against England Saxons at Galashiels on Friday.

Says Brown: “Along with Scotland under-20s, who are playing at the same time, if we win it sends out a good message and hopefully gives the senior team some confidence for the Calcutta Cup match at Murrayfield.”

Speaking at Meadowbank where he helped Edinburgh’s promotional partner ESPC launch a sponsorship for Libby Clegg, the Paralympic athlete, Brown said that the fact his club had been playing at a high intensity in gaining a European Cup quarter final place would help the international squad. “It’s only going to help that we’ve been playing under pressure and having success.

“With Glasgow doing well in the league, too, hopefully that is going to come through to the national side.”

Scotland A will name their side tomorrow for a meeting with an England side, who defeated Irish Wolfhounds last weekend and Brown has been doing his homework on potential opponents.

“Saxons are a big, physical team and pretty direct” he says.
