Shinty: Danny MacRae admits cup is coveted by Newtonmore

Danny MacRae admitted Newtonmore have targeted shinty's Camanachd Cup after they ended Fort William's stranglehold in rampant fashion 8-1 on Saturday.

Fort William have won the sport's elite trophy four years in a row, but Newtonmore tore them apart in a second-half whirlwind at the Eilan.

MacRae, who netted five second half counters, admits the Camanachd Cup is now the honour the Newtonmore players are coveting most.

"We have been trying to win this trophy for years but, definitely, it is one we would love to get this season," said Scotland internationalist MacRae.

"We haven't been playing that well this season but, when it all clicks for us, it is great and that is what happened on Saturday. I haven't been scoring that many recently so to get five against Fort William is great. Hopefully we can carry on from here and build on the result."

In the shock of the round, lower league Kinlochshiel saw off top flight Glenurquhart 3-0.
