Shinty: Anderson hopes to avoid Newtonmore in cup draw

Kingussie co-manager Davie Anderson was delighted his side booked a place in the draw for the last four of the Camanachd Cup on Saturday and now hopes to avoid rivals Newtonmore.

He said: “If I was to be honest, I think I’d rather avoid them at this stage and I think all the other clubs will probably be thinking the same thing.”

The draw for the semi-final of the sport’s major trophy will be made on Wednesday in Perthshire, with all the notable names in the running order.

Kingussie pulled out another defiant performance to see of Kinlochshiel 5-2 at the Dell. Meanwhile, Newtonmore and 2012 winners Kyles saw off lower league Caberfeidh and Beauly 2-0 and 7-2 respectively.

Fort William beat Glen Urquhart 2-0 in Drumnadrochit, arguably their result of the campaign to date.

With the bigger sides progressing, the margins between them are now paper thin and fans can expect a bill-topping showcase no matter what.
