Sean O'Hanlon focused on helping Hibs challenge for silverware

Sean O'Hanlon has set his sights on silverware after completing his move to Hibernian.

The defender, 28, has signed a two-year contract with the Easter Road side following a spell with MK Dons.

O'Hanlon becomes Hibs manager Colin Calderwood's third capture of the summer so far, following the signing of Ivan Sproule and Garry O'Connor.

O'Hanlon told Hibernian TV: "I'm really pleased to be joining Hibernian and I'm looking forward to the challenge of trying to win some silverware. Basically I want to help Hibernian challenge for cups, get into Europe and to compete well in the league.

"Colin Calderwood says he has been chasing me for a few years, so it is great to be able to sign for a manager that has shown such a lot of interest in me.

"I'm very fortunate this opportunity came about. Hibernian are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and it is a fantastic set-up.

"The training ground is better than the one Everton had when I was there - it is the best training facility I've experienced as a professional.

"As an experienced player, anything I can give to the younger lads I'm going to do, and I still want to improve. I want to lead from the front on match days."

O'Hanlon is relishing the prospect of forming a central defensive partnership with Paul Hanlon, even though the pairing could pose problems for match commentators.

He said: "I'm looking forward to it, there are not many clubs who have two centre-backs with virtually the same surname.

"Hopefully we can form a formidable partnership."

O'Hanlon added: "I'd like to think I'm a bit of an all-rounder. I'm fairly strong in the air at set-plays, I like to get my head on corners or free-kicks. But first and foremost I'm here to get clean sheets and if we get clean sheets then hopefully our strikers will do their job at the other end."

Calderwood has long been an admirer of the player and was thrilled to complete the signing.

He said: "Sean is an experienced player and a great professional with leadership qualities.

"I'm really pleased to have him on board for next season.

"He is another experienced voice in the dressing room and a good organiser on the pitch. He certainly complements what we already have in the squad and is an important addition."
