Scottish cyclists descend on East Lothian

Cyclists from around Scotland will be in action in East Lothian tomorrow when the Musselburgh Road Cycling Club hosts the traditional early season team trial.

The race, covering 24.3 miles will be contested in squads of three, with the first trio rolling out at 1pm. The popularity of the event as a test of how the winter’s training has gone is reflected in the size of the field, with 38 teams taking part – an increase of five on last year.

Opening the action will be Edinburgh RC, which has a total of five teams, while the host club can call on former international Andy Matheson, Douglas Kirkham and Andrew Scott. Others bidding for the title include teams from Aberdeen, Stirling, Glasgow, Kelso and Paisley.

Organiser Davie Urquhart will be hoping for better fortune with the weather after the cancellation of last year’s event, which coincided with the club’s 75th anniversary.
