Scott out to scalp Euro champs

Matt Scott believes Edinburgh Rugby’s trip to face Leinster on Saturday is a golden opportunity to put an encouraging start to the season into true perspective.

Edinburgh have hit the heights with a rare away win in Cardiff (19-21) and also shown an eye for the try-line in thrashing Italian newcomers Zebre in the Rabo Direct Pro 12
(41-10).

But finding consistency has long been a theme in the Edinburgh dressing-room and international centre Scott, who made his seasonal debut last weekend, knows the value of scalping the reigning European champions in their own backyard. Scott says: “It’s different from last year last when we didn’t know how good we were. On the Heineken Cup run (to the semis) in every game we kept surprising ourselves.

“Now we have set ourselves pretty high targets. We are in a positive frame of mind and really ambitious.

“We’re looking to keep the wins coming which will hopefully give us a bit of momentum.”

Edinburgh lie third in the table and their hosts are in sixth position but Edinburgh haven’t won three successive Pro 12 games since October 2010 and the last eight encounters with Irish provinces have been lost.
