Scott Jamieson finishes top Scot in Desert Classic

The 32-year-old signed off on the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club with a 72 for a five-under-par 283 aggregate.

That left him in a tie for 44th, 10 spots and a couple of shots ahead of the two other Scots who made the cut, David Drysdale and Craig Lee, after they closed with 71 and 72 respectively.

“It was pretty much the same story as the first three days,” reported Jamieson after a an effort containing a mix of four birdies and four bogeys.

“I hit a couple of bad wedges, missing the green from one of them and taking bogey, which is pretty silly.

“It’s four rounds of par or better and I’ve made all three cuts on the Desert Swing, which is good.”

The challenge for Jamieson when he resumes his schedule in Thailand in a month’s time is to turn being around at the weekend into big money.

“I made a lot of cuts last year but didn’t have any big finishes and that was a bit problematic coming into the end of the year,” he said, having cut it fine in holding on to his card by ending up 106th in the Race to Dubai.

“I want to push on at the weekends a bit more than I have done, but I feel I’m getting better. I’ve got four weeks to prepare for the next stint and have a couple of areas I will be looking to improve.”

While Jamieson and Lee are both now heading home, Drysdale is South Africa-bound again for the Tshwane Open in Pretoria.

“Today was probably the worst I’ve played all week,” said the 40-year-old from Cockburnspath. “I made a couple of daft bogeys and couldn’t make any putts.”

Reflecting on the last three weeks, he added: “I played alright in Abu Dhabi and should have made the cut in Qatar.

“I wasn’t planning to play in the Tshwane Open but have added it to the schedule as I’m eighth reserve at the moment for Malaysia the following week.

“The week after that it’s the Perth International and I’m already looking forward to that, having tied fourth in it in 2014 to hang on to my card.”

Lee was three-under for his final round with six holes to play before dropping three shots in a row from the 14th.

“I just started to miss putts unfortunately,” said the 38-year-old from Stirling of four efforts from ten feet or less staying above ground.”

He’d been struggling earlier in the week with a wrist injury and neck problem but added: “I feel realtively healthy today. Indeed, I feel fresher than when I started in South Africa a month ago!”
