Scott bounds to fine victory at Hamilton on Springheel Jake

ROWAN SCOTT rode the second winner of his fledging career when landing the feature race at Hamilton Park on Springheel Jake.

The Hawick-born apprentice, who has only had a dozen rides, made most of the running on Ann Duffield’s top-weight in the McGhee’s Teaz Handicap to beat Party Royal by two-lengths.

Scott, 17, is based with the winning trainer and he said: “I rode my first winner exactly a week ago at Beverley on Lady Montenegro and it’s great to have my first winner in Scotland now.

“I started off with Alistair Whillans and I’ve been with Mrs Duffield about a year. My big hero is William Buick.

“Springheel Jake drifted into the centre of the track but he straightened up when I pulled my whip through and he stayed on well for me.”

Linda Perratt opened her account for the season when Lee Topliss drove Schmooze home for the East Kilbride trainer in the concluding apprentice handicap.

She said: “It’s been an up and down afternoon as Findog would have gone close if he hadn’t been stopped in his run several times.

“And Royal Straight was only beaten a short-head in the nine-furlong handicap.

“The horses are running really well at the moment.”
