Scots' touch of class

Sara Ebbett and Donna Spence scored two tries apiece as Scotland's Women's Open team notched up their first win of the tournament at the Touch World Cup at Peffermill yesterday.

Prior to the tie with Germany the team had lost two and drawn one, but they found their form to see off the Germans 10-1. As well as Ebbett and Spence, Anna Thomas, Jennifer Wright, Liesel Lippstreu-Holmes, Kristy Burnett, Rebecca Walker and Fiona Gray all scored, with Antje Kreuzer getting Germany's only try.

Scotland's Men's Open team slumped to defeats against Australia and Japan, the latter winning that encounter 8-3. Australia remain favourites in the category and in their 23-2 win over Scotland Matt Bird led the way with six tries, while Jonathan Palau grabbed a hat-trick.

David Heslop scored his 12th try of the tournament and Lianne Campbell ran in a hat-trick, but Scotland's Mixed Open team lost their only match of the day to Wales 6-4.

Scotland's Mens 30s lost to France and drew with Wales yesterday, while the Mens 35s lost out to Japan and Spain 7-3 and 7-2 respectively. Victor Francisco-Suarez and David Matthews scored tries as Scotland's Mens 40s drew 2-2 with Italy.
