Schools netball: Lanarkshire showdown in Scottish Cup final

Holy Cross High School in Hamilton take on East Kilbride’s Duncanrig Secondary in the Scottish Schools’ Cup final at Ravenscraig Sports Centre in Motherwell on Friday.

The Open gold event is the centrepiece of the two-day programme and the growth of the game at school level is reflected in the fact that bronze finals have been added to the gold and silver from previous years.

Arbroath High School won the senior one title last year at Meadowbank when they beat Peebles High School in the final and both schools contest the senior two gold final this year.

Peebles are in the senior one, two and three gold finals – a great accolade for coach Linda Nicholson, a former Edinburgh player. Nicholson runs her own research company but set up a netball club when her own daughter was involved and she now coaches the Peebles girls on a voluntary basis.

Hyndland Secondary – last year’s senior two champions – contest the senior three final.

Gold finals:

Senior One – Peebles High School v Hyndland Secondary.

Senior Two - Arbroath High School v Peebles High School.

Senior Three – Peebles High School v Hyndland Secondary.

Open - Holy Cross High School v Duncanrig Secondary School.
