School Games: Young sports stars arrive in London

A HOST of local youngsters are in London this weekend as the UK School Games begin.

A number of pupils from schools in the Capital and surrounding area are competing for Scotland and Scotland East in the multi-sport event, sponsored by Sainsburys, from tomorrow until Wednesday, with around 1600 children from Scotland, England Wales and Northern Ireland involved.

Royal High School pupil Julie MacPherson, who was in the Scotland badminton under-15 squad that won the Four Nations team event recently, is in the girls’ doubles with Sarah Findlay from Erskine and the mixed doubles with James Milton from Mauchline. MacPherson was also in the UK School Games squad last year and the under-17 national singles champion was a singles runner-up and doubles winner with Findlay at the Four Nations.
