Saracens secure Stringer on loan

AVIVA Premiership champions Saracens have confirmed the signing of Ireland international Peter Stringer on a three-month loan deal.

The Munster scrum-half, who has won 98 caps, will be registered to play Premiership and Heineken Cup rugby with Saracens. Saracens’ move for Stringer follows injuries suffered by their England No 9, Richard Wigglesworth, and the South African, Neil de Kock.

Saracens are next in action on Saturday, when they resume their Heineken Cup campaign by tackling the Ospreys at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Munster’s New Zealand international wing, Doug Howlett, is to undergo a scan and seek specialist opinion this week after being injured during the RaboDirect Pro12 clash against Ospreys on Saturday.

Munster say Howlett has been ruled out of their back-to-back Heineken Cup appointments with the Scarlets during the next fortnight.

Initial examination has suggested he suffered Achilles tendon damage late in a game that Munster lost 19-13 at the Liberty Stadium.
