Sale Sharks snap up Andy Powell

Wales international Andy Powell has signed a two-year deal with Sale Sharks after leaving fellow Aviva Premiership side Wasps last week.

Powell, 29, who left the London club after a bar-room incident last month, also courted controversy when he was involved in an incident with a golf buggy on Six Nations duty last year which landed him with a 15-month driving ban and an immediate exit from the Wales squad.

But Powell, who has 17 caps and toured South Africa with the British & Irish Lions two years ago was welcomed by Sale director Steve Diamond, who said: "This is a huge signing. Andy has tremendous experience, is one of the best ball carrying forwards in World Rugby and is one of the final pieces in the jigsaw."
