Sailing: Sloop John T home and dry

Clyde regular Sloop John T lifted the Old Pulteney IRC Scottish Championship trophy, helmed by Iain Thomson from Lamlash on Arran.

The 16-year-old Swan 40 had two first places and two seconds, leaving it clear of the competition with just six points.

In the Mudhook Yacht Club-organised event at Largs, the Sloop John T’s crew held off challenges from Carmen II, Now or Never 3 and More Misjif.

The IRC Class 1 was won by Eos, an Elan 410 owned by Rod and Mhairi Stuart from Glasgow. It also recorded a scoresheet of two firsts and two seconds in a fleet of six yachts. Second place was taken by Charles Frize and his crew on board the Mills 36 on ten points, with Chris Bonar’s Bateleur 97 from Dundee third.
