Sailing: Gordon wins top prize on Loch Fyne

In bright afternoon sunshine after a final day when no racing was possible due to complete calm conditions on Loch Fyne, Grant Gordon and his crew of Fever Glenfiddich were awarded the top prize, The Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series Trophy, as the clear standout performers at the 92-boat Scottish Series Regatta after winning all seven of their race in IRC Class 3.

It was Gordon’s third visit to the Scottish Series since 2005, when he won the Swan 45 class with Fever, the predecessor to the J/97 Fever Glenfiddich.

It was a rewarding overall triumph for Tarbert’s Ruairidh Scott, who has served as tactician with Gordon’s crew for several years, including winning the Swan 45 European championships.

“This is a team of friends that I can rely on, some from university sailing days, some who we wanted to be here because we know they enjoy it, but we came to have fun and so winning here is great,” said Scott.

“I am so fortunate to go sailing and racing all around the world but it is really special to come back here and winning here is even better. This regatta has been as good as I can remember. And, yes, we all joke about Loch Fyne from time to time.”
