Sailing: British trio sail into final

GREAT Britain are guaranteed to leave the World Championships in Perth, Australia, with at least a silver medal from the women’s match racing after a semi-final fightback from Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor.

The Skandia Team GBR trio were holding on to their World Championship title by a thread when they went 2-0 down in the first-to-three semi-final against France’s Claire Leroy, Elodie Bertrand and Marie Riou. But the Poole-based crew won the last three matches to get a shot at gold in today’s final against Anna Tunnicliffe, Debbie Capozzi and Molly Vandemoer of the US.

John Pink and Rick Peacock are in control of the 49er fleet, with a six-point lead.

A tenth place for Dave Evans and Ed Powys sees them remain in the top-ten medal race positions in the skiff class, currently sixth overall, while 18th-placed Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign will look to make the most of the remaining six fleet races.

Britain’s Paul Goodison and Nick Thompson are in second and third spots with two more fleet races and the medal race to go in the Laser class.
