Body found on Skye confirmed as missing fisherman

A body washed ashore on the Isle of Skye has been confirmed as that of a missing fisherman.

Alasdair Macleod, 57, from the Applecross area, was reported missing on November 20.

His empty boat Varuna had been discovered with its engine running on rocks north of Applecross Bay, Wester Ross.

A body was recovered on December 9 and police said formal identification has now taken place.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Mr Macleod’s family said last week that they expected the body to be confirmed of the Applecross fisherman.
