Runaway win for Omix D'Or

TRAINER James Evans recorded the biggest success of his career when Omix D'Or won a gruelling renewal of the Highland National at Perth.

Evans made the 700-mile round trip from Broadwas On Teme in Worcestershire with a measure of confidence that Omix D'Or would make a bold bid to take the honours.

Seventeen horses set out on the near four-mile trip, but only six completed with Omix D'Or (9-1) going to the front six fences from home and sticking to his task well for David Dennis to see off the challenge of Petit Margot by 11 lengths to win the 20,000 contest.

Lisa Harrison's Solway Sam justified good support from 3-1 into 7-4 favouritism in the maiden hurdle, while Keith Donoghue completed his first double on Elbow High (3-1) and Nedzer's Return (2-1 favourite).

Sam Twiston-Davies gained his first win as a conditional jockey on father Nigel's Skipper Robin in the bumper.
