Rugby: Webster’s influence key to Farndale’s Murrayfield rise

NEW Edinburgh Rugby signing Jamie Farndale is grateful for the assistance he received from ex-Scotland winger Simon Webster.

Farndale, 18, who made one substitute appearance for Edinburgh at Cardiff late last term, has attracted attention as top scorer in the recent World Under-20 Championship with Scotland but says that was partly due to the influence of Webster, who is likely to be a team-mate on occasions when he is farmed out to Edinburgh Accies. Webster has joined Accies and winger Farndale said: “When I was training with Edinburgh last year Simon was a fantastic help. If I ran a line wrongly he was always ready with assistance in correcting things.”

Accies have also recruited recent schoolboy stars including Alex Glashan and Chris Dean, former colleagues of Farndale, who says: “Deano has played centre and flanker. He has good pace while Alex ran a couple of scotland under-18 games last year with his pick and go and cover tackling.”
