U-20 call for Hutchison

Loughborough University student Blair Hutchison has been drafted in as an injury replacement for Scotland under-20.

The former Melrose player will take the place of Edinburgh Accies full-back, Ruaridh Young, who broke his leg in Wednesday’s 44-13 loss to Argentina in the Junior World Championship. Hutchison will begin training with the team immediately, and will be available for selection for tomorrow’s Pool C match against Wales at the Stade Pascal Laporte in Nantes (kick-off 4pm BST).

Meanwhile, Scotland coach Stephen Gemmell has been forced to make a late change to his squad for this weekend’s first round of the FIRA-AER Euro
Sevens at Matmut Stadium in Lyon with Joe Nayacavou replacing Struan Dewar, who has a leg injury.

Nayacavou is a Fijian currently serving with the Royal Scots in Edinburgh. “Joe has been training with the squad but we’ve never really had a chance to look at him at this level,” said Scotland assistant sevens coach, Graham Shiel, who will be in charge of Scottish Thistles at today’s second round of the GB7s at Meggetland.

Nayacavou was due to play for Thistles today. His place goes to Jed-Forest teenager, Glen Young, who has been recruited by
Newcastle Falcons Academy.
