The St Johnstone striker has netted six times in nine appearances for Tommy Wright’s side since signing in July.

The 24-year-old has one cap for Scotland after appearing as a substitute in a match against the Czech Republic in March 2016, during Gordon Strachan’s tenure.

Speaking to the Saints’ website, Watt said: “I want to get back in the [Scotland] squad. It is part of my ambition because you want to be playing for your country.

“This squad came around too quickly but if I can consistently do it for months then who knows, maybe I can get back in.”

Watt scored against Hibs and Dundee last month as well as bagging a brace in a Betfred Cup win over Queen of the South, which set up a last eight clash with former club Celtic.

The former Standard Liege and Charlton forward admits it could be hard facing the champions.

“It is going to be hard and it might not be good on the night with all the running we need to do.

“But we will have a game-plan and hopefully we can give them a game. We go into every game expecting to win.”

Watt also paid tribute to his manager, as he looks to carry on where he left off once the international break is over.

“He has been brilliant, he’s the reason I came here. He has given me bits of advice and coaching that he needs me to do, and has helped my game massively,” Watt said.

“You’ve always got a point to prove in football and hopefully I can keep this up and score as many goals as possible.”
