Tim Visser back for Edinburgh’s 1872 Cup bid

ALAN Solomons has recalled Tim Visser to Edinburgh’s left wing for this evening’s 1872 Cup clash against Glasgow Warriors. The capital outfit’s top try scorer missed out on last weekend’s defeat by the Warriors after struggling with a back injury, but has now been given the all clear to replace Tom Brown.

The only other change in the Edinburgh team is at inside centre where Phil Burleigh comes in for Andries Strauss.

That means Matt Scott continues in the unaccustomed position of outside centre, which could have implications on the make-up of the Scotland team in the upcoming RBS 6 Nations.

Hamish Watson will make his first appearance for the club since breaking his jaw against Lyon back in October. He has been named on the bench.

Solomons said: “Winning this [game] would be a great reward for the effort that has been put in.”

Meanwhile, Gregor Townsend has made ten alterations to his starting 15, with captain Al Kellock, back-rowers Ryan Wilson and Josh Strauss, and centres Peter Horne and Alex Dunbar the only members of the team which started last week’s game keeping their place.

Rob Harley is unavailable due to damaged tissue in both his knee and ankle so is replaced at openside flanker by Tyrone Holmes, while in-form Tommy Seymour returns to the right wing in place of Sean Lamont. Peter Murchie will start at full-back with Stuart Hogg dropping to the bench, while Bath-bound Niko Matawalu will be Finn Russell’s half-back partner.

“It’s great that we’re able welcome back some players who were rested last weekend and this allows us to freshen up the squad,” said Townsend. “A number of players have earned the opportunity to play in this fixture and we’ll need to play better tomorrow night if we’re to come away with a positive result.”
