Shield: Dissapointing loss to Argentina for Scotland

SCOTLAND 7s ended a disappointing final day at the Hong Kong 7s with a 12-7 loss to Argentina in the Shield
semi-final.

They dropped into the bottom-tiered trophy race earlier in the day, losing out to the USA 21-12 in the Bowl quarter-finals. For the Scots, attention will now move to the seventh leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Tokyo next weekend (30-31 March), where they will need to win as many series points as possible to keep out of the relegation zone.

Head coach Stephen Gemmell said: “Today’s performances were not acceptable, we didn’t turn up and the Scotland team that played in Vegas and yesterday in Hong Kong is not the one that played today. We need to work out why that is.”

Meanwhile, Fiji defended their title in the most dramatic fashion, coming back from a 19-0 half time deficit to beat first-time World Series Cup finalists Wales, 26-19.
