Scottish Rugby hires Celtic lawyer to head legal affairs

SCOTTISH Rugby has appointed Celtic Football Club’s company secretary to the role of general counsel.

Robert Howat will take up the newly created position early in the New Year.

Mr Howat will oversee the legal and governance department at Murrayfield and will step down as company secretary to 
Celtic, a position he has 
held for the past 11 years.

Mark Dodson, chief executive of Scottish Rugby said: “This is another significant appointment for Scottish Rugby and we are delighted that Robert will be joining us.

“His experience in legal, regulatory and commercial issues associated with sport in Scotland and further afield will be of great benefit to us as we continue to build a strong and successful future for Scottish Rugby.”

Peter Lawwell, Celtic FC’s chief executive, commented: “Robert has been with us for over 11 years and is a highly regarded member of our executive team and adviser to the board. He has done a great deal over that time to help protect and develop the interests of Celtic Football Club.

“The board and all at Celtic Football Club thank him for his service, and wish him every success in his new post and the future.”
