Scottish Rugby extends use of world cup strip

SCOTTISH Rugby are set to retain their Rugby World Cup strip - their fastest-selling kit - until next year.

The Macron-designed home navy and away white jerseys, which features tartan flanks, will go on extended sale, with the Rugby World Cup logo currently on the shirts to be replaced by national team sponsor BT and BT Sport for the first time since their sponsorship deal was agreed.

The kit, which features the Scottish Rugby tartan for the first time since it was commissioned in 1990 as part of the Grand Slam celebrations, will be make its first home appearance at Murrayfield at Scotland’s summer test against Italy on Saturday 29th August.

Dominic McKay, Director of Commercial Operations, Communications and Public Affairs, said: “The response to Scotland’s new playing jersey for the Rugby World Cup 2015 is unprecedented.

“Fans all over the world are buying the kit faster than ever so we’re pleased to reveal that our tartan style will be a prominent feature of the Scotland team all season long, with our Summer Test match against Italy the first chance to see it on home soil.

“We’re also delighted to see the jersey accompanied by the brand of main sponsor BT the first time since our landmark partnership began, a partnership that is helping us do great things for rugby in Scotland.”

Macron’s UK and Ireland Sports Marketing Manager, Ross Cook, added “The reaction from the Scottish fans to the Rugby World Cup kits has been phenomenal. We have already launched four separate production runs to keep up with demand.”

The new kit is on sale from Tuesday 28th July.
