We also shine our club spotlight on Melrose, and find out how the club is working to attract sponsors in new ways, and ask a leading sponsor why club rugby remains attractive, as Scottish clubs struggle to balance the books in difficult financial times. Director of Rugby Mike Dalgetty says the picture has changed for clubs seeking sponsorship, while QUBE GB commercial officer Raymond Kerr insists that club rugby remains very attractive to promoting business UK-wide. Bruce Colvine, the 21-year-old skipper, is also a product of Melrose’s youth system and he explains how the standards that brought through Craig Chalmers, Bryan Redpath, Doddie Weir and Graham Shiel in the 1980s/90s, are still being applied now.

George Graham is this week’s Scotland internationalist, and his highlights include memories of Scotland footballer Billy Bremner, scrum-half Gary Armstrong, Springbok Marius Hurter and a great moment in Ireland where he scored his first Test try, only to be stretchered off and ridiculed by his teammates!
We are working hard with clubs to try and uncover more footage from games across the country. One of the stumbling blocks has been the quality of footage, which so far is not good enough to show to the standard we are demanding. Borders Rugby TV provides excellent match action and we are now looking at setting up a workshop with clubs to improve the quality nationwide, and ensure we have more clubs and players featured each week.
We will be back on 30 January with a Six Nations Championship preview featuring legendary ex-internationalists giving their views on the current game, the SRU and the Scotland set-up, and looking back to their roles in the last victory at Twickenham in 1983.
