Scotland captain Chris Cusiter out of Argentina tour with knee injury

SCOTLAND captain Chris Cusiter is flying home from his side's tour of Argentina later today after he failed to recover from a knee injury.

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Cusiter, pictured, is still struggling with the injury which forced him to miss the 24-5 win over a Japan Select side in Edinburgh two weeks ago and the 24-16 first Test win in Tucuman on Saturday.

Cusiter had said that he expected to miss the first game but was hopeful of playing at the Estadio Jose Maria Minella in Mar del Plata this weekend. However, coach Andy Robinson has decided not to risk him.

He said: "Chris trained yesterday with us but he did not come through.

"It has been seven weeks since the last time he played a rugby match.

"After discussing this with him, we decided to send him back home."

Despite the loss of Cusiter, Robinson was impressed by the performances of Rory Lawson and Mike Blair in Tucuman, with the Gloucester man starting before Blair replaced him in the 59th minute.

"I am happy with the way Rory played and the way he has trained so far. And I also liked how Mike played," said Robinson.

Glasgow lock Alastair Kellock, who turned 29 on Monday, is expected to captain the side again after he skippered Scotland last weekend.

Meanwhile, prop Alasdair Dickinson has fully recovered from a stomach upset.

A Scottish Ruby Union spokesman said: "He is fine. The rest of the squad is eligible to play. I don't know whether he will stay on the bench or have a starting position, but he is fine."

The head coach already warned the Scots they will need to be more clinical in finishing off tryscoring opportunities, after relying on the boot of fly-half Dan Parks for all their points in the first Test.

And Robinson also knows the victory in Tucuman will count for little on Saturday as they prepare to face a wounded Pumas' side.

"Saturdays Test will be completely different," he said. "The scoreboard starts at 0-0 again.

"It's a new referee, a new pitch, and I also expect a better performance by Argentina."

Scotland's victory was the first time their hosts had been defeated in Tucuman and Robinson is desperate to see his side complete a 2-0 Test series success.

The former England boss added: "We have the opportunity to get back-to-back wins in Argentina, which not many teams have done."
