Lennon slams officials’ blunders

A RAGING Neil Lennon has vowed to appeal his sending off after claiming the Spanish officials cost Hibs a night of European glory against Brondby at Easter Road last night.

Referee Juan Martinez Munuera sent Lennon to the stand after he reacted angrily to seeing what he believed was a perfectly good goal from Jason Cummings ruled offside.

“I was angry because the linesman was not up with play. I remonstrated with him and next thing I am sent to the stand for no reason whatsoever. It was a piece of nonsense.” (Evening News)

Wednesday want Mulgrew

SHEFFIELD Wednesday are believed to be interested in signing Celtic utility man Charlie Mulgrew.

The Owls have reportedly offered Mulgrew a contract worth around £1 million a year.

The Scotland defender’s Celtic contract ran out last month but he has been in negotiations with the Hoops over a new deal. (Scottish Sun)

I expected ref not to have good game, admits Lennon

NEIL Lennon accused referee Juan Martinez Munuera of ‘wanting to be the star of the show rather than the players’ after a series of decisions angered the Hibs boss.

“I don’t think the ref had a good game, which was what I was expecting looking at his record last season. His relationship with his two linesmen was poor,” said Lennon.

Lennon was also unhappy at his side being denied a penalty after Grant Holt tumbled in the box, adding: “The penalty was debatable, he’s not going to fall over on his own. It looked like contact, it was minimal but again a lot of [Munuera’s] decisions were pretty inconsisent.” (Various)

Dodoo set to make permanent Gers switch

LEICESTER forward Joe Dodoo is set to join Rangers on a permanent basis, becoming the club’s ninth signing of the summer.

The 21-year-old is on the verge of signing a four-year deal after holding talks with Ibrox chiefs earlier this week.

The transfer is likely to cost Rangers around £250,000 in training compensation as Dodoo looks to secure regular first team football. (Daily Mail)

Kiernan set for new Ibrox deal

RANGERS have opened talks with defender Rob Kiernan over a new contract, according to reports.

The Irishman moved to Ibrox after leaving Wigan in the summer of 2015, and signed until June 2017 - but Gers chiefs are reportedly keen on extending Kiernan’s stay in Glasgow.

Kiernan made 33 appearances for Mark Warburton’s side last season. (Daily Mail)

Celtic ‘need 3 or 4 players’ says Murdo MacLeod

MURDO MacLeod reckons former club Celtic need to bring in three or four players in the summer transfer window.

The ex-Hoops midfielder reacted after seeing Celtic slip to a surprise loss in Gibraltar, insisting: “Celtic need at least three or four good, quality players, players who can appreciate the demands when you are playing at a high level and trying to get into the UEFA Champions League.” (Evening Times)

Hearts players ‘sick’ after Malta effort

HEARTS players vomited in the dressing-room from heat exhaustion after last night’s Europa League qualifier in Malta.

However, head coach Robbie Neilson praised a job well done and implored them to finish the tie at Tynecastle next week.

Neilson added: “I was really pleased with the lads’ fitness levels. A couple were sick in the dressing-room from being too hot. It’s really difficult to play in that heat.” (Evening News)

McInnes hails Burns after debut goal

DEREK McInnes has praised loan signing Wes Burns after the Bristol Rovers hitman netted on his Aberdeen debut.

The Dons beat Latvian outfit Ventspils 3-0 at Pittodrie last night, with Burns scoring the third goal after coming on as an 89th minute sub for Adam Rooney.

McInnes said: “Wes came on and scored with his first touch. He did really well to get up ahead of their big centre forward. He will be a good addition for us. I have no doubts about that.” (STV Sport)
