National League: Selkirk coach wants big send-off from side

Selkirk’s departing coach Brian Cassidy will look to sign off with a victory tonight when his side takes on Stewart’s Melville to
finish the RBS National League for 2012/13.

Cassidy has been coaching the Borderers along with Ali Dickson and Ewen Robbie, but next term will not be involved with the first team with Dickson becoming head coach.

Selkirk are guaranteed a fourth place finish and certainly Cassidy would be keen to see more of the fighting spirit that the players showed last week in a win over Biggar.

In that one, Rory Banks kicked a last-minute drop goal to see them edge the match 20-17 while Ross Nixon typified the team spirit by playing almost the whole 80 minutes with a broken thumb.

After that one Cassidy said: “The players’ commitment was first class, and demonstrated that there’s no such thing as a ‘meaningless fixture’. Pulling on a Selkirk jersey is always special, and our players showed just how much it means to them.”

Stewart’s Melville travel south knowing a victory would see them jump over Hillhead/Jordanhill and finish in fifth place.

When the sides met earlier in the season Selkirk won 32-23 at Inverleith. Tonight’s match kicks-off at 7.30pm.
