Marr humiliate West of Scotland in 19-try romp

The Troon outfit were dominant last term in winning RBS West One and the RBS Shield, but few could have predicted the performance they produced to win 119-5 on the first day after taking a step up.

They were 57-0 up at the interval and never took their foot off the pedal as they got over three figures, with West replying with just one try of their own.

Gregor Ness, Kris Kirk and Conor Bickerstaff all helped themselves to three tries apiece for Marr while Rory McGee, Colin Sturgeon and Scott Bickerstaff all got doubles and Grant Baird, Chris Nisbet, Fraser Grant and Paul Burk also scored.

Cartha Queens Park were also in good form at home to defeat Dumfries 45-6.

Ardrossan are third in the table after they opened up with a 43-10 win at Dalziel while Falkirk and Hamilton also got off to winning starts.

Paul Larter’s first match as head coach of Falkirk saw them edge out Greenock Wanderers 20-19 while Hamilton’s attempts to bounce back into the RBS National League started well, seeing off Whitecraigs 32-15.

In RBS Championship B, Haddington came back from 10-0 down at the break to draw 10-10 with Kirkcaldy in Fife.

A try by Ross Girdler and five points from the boot of Jamie Moffatt looked to have put the home side in control, but in the second half captain Gary Cockburn scored a try for the visitors, converted by Nick Bell, before replacement Alex Ferguson held his nerve with a penalty to level things up.

With two minutes to go, Moffatt had the chance to win it for Kirkcaldy, but his penalty agonisingly hit the bar and was then cleared away to safety.

Aberdeenshire, who have come up from the regional leagues, top the table after impressing to defeat Hawick YM 39-15.

A last-minute drop goal saw Lasswade defeat Livingston 25-24 at Almond Park, the pints heading back to Hawthornden in Bernie Hennessey’s first match in charge.

Jed-Forest managed to see off Howe of Fife 21-15 at Riverside Park and it was pleasing for the home side that new players Sean Goodfellow and Monty Mitchell both showed up well on debut.

Musselburgh defeated Murrayfield Wanderers 45-17 in Edinburgh.
