Kelso head to Mayfield full of confidence after great start

Unbeaten Kelso have had their best start to a season in a number of years and head to Dundee HSFP this afternoon for their most testing assignment so far in the RBS National League.

The Poynder Park men, under the leadership of new head coach Darren Cunningham and sidekick Gerry McGuinness, have won their first three matches and sit second in the table.

So far they have defeated Selkirk, Biggar and Hillhead/Jordanhill and there is a real buzz around the club just now.

Today they head for Mayfield and Cunningham, the former Jed coach who joined Kelso in the summer, said: “It has been a great few weeks, the boys have started well and are playing with a huge amount of confidence.

Dundee HSFP sit fourth and will be keen to bounce back from defeat against Boroughmuir seven days ago.

Leaders Watsonians have been forced into a number of changes as they head to Hillhead/Jordanhill.

Hillhead/Jordanhill have lost their first three matches, but are always tough nut at home.

Boroughmuir, in second and also unbeaten, take a trip to the Gytes to take on Peebles.

Adam Best is out with a shoulder injury for the visitors so Thomas Docherty comes into the starting XV in the second-row for his first start.

Both Biggar and GHA will be looking for their first victory of the campaign when they meet at Hartreemill.

And finally, Fraser Harkness moves to scrum-half for Selkirk as they host Stewart’s Melville.

The hosts’ skipper Andrew Renwick is suspended for a second week having received a nine week ban for verbally abusing a referee during the encounter wit Watsonians.
