Injured Sean Lamont doubtful for Six Nations
The veteran utility back was stretchered off during Glasgow’s 28-16 Pro12 triumph over the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea at the weekend. And there had been fears he could have sustained a fracture.
However, scans revealed only trauma to ligaments in his right ankle and the 32-year-old now faces a period of assessment before a timescale is put on his expected recovery.

Hide AdA Warriors spokesman said: “Sean will require further review with his consultant over the next few weeks, which will determine the time he will remain on the sidelines. Our medical team would like to thank their counterparts at the Ospreys for their assistance at the Liberty Stadium on the night.”
Lamont appeared in all three of Scotland’s recent autumn Test tussles with Japan, South Africa and Australia.
The Scots launch their Six Nations programme against Ireland in Dublin on Sunday, 2 February, before facing England in the Calcutta Cup showdown at Murrayfield six days later.
Lamont had been due to line up for Glasgow in Friday’s crucial Heineken Cup back-to-back encounters with Cardiff Blues. And team-mate Josh Strauss admitted his absence will be a setback.
The big South African breakaway forward said: “Sean is an exceptional leader - such an experienced player for the team. He is a talisman and it is a blow to lose him. We all feel for him, though we do have options to fill that position - and we just have to do the job. We have to focus on the guys who are playing this weekend.”
The first leg is at the Arms Park on Friday, with the return meeting at Scotstoun the following weekend.
Cardiff will be bolstered by the return of a number of Wales internationals, including Sam Warburton and Leigh Halfpenny, and head into the match on the back of a 26-26 draw with Treviso in Italy.
Glasgow edged a close encounter in the league earlier this season 22-15 at Scotstoun, and although Gregor Towsend’s side currently sit third in the Pro12 table and Cardiff only ninth, those positions will count for little on the Heineken Cup stage in a wide open Pool 2 where all four teams have one won and lost one so far.
