Hughes to return to Jed-Forest after Musselburgh spell

Former Jed-Forest player and coach Brian Hughes is to return to the club for the 2013/14 season as head coach.

Hughes has been at the helm at Musselburgh for the last three seasons, but the pull of his old club has proved too much to resist and he will lead Jed in to the Championship next term as they look to gain promotion at the first attempt.

The former Scotland under-21 cap played 15 seasons for Jed previously before a serious neck injury ended his playing career. He also coached Jed alongside Brian Renwick for two years between 2003 and 2005. He said: “I have really enjoyed my three years at Musselburgh and I would like to thank everyone there for their tremendous support.

“I now live in Selkirk and all the travelling was taking a toll so when Jed approached me to return it was hard to resist.

“I’m a Jed man and the opportunity to work with Kevin Barrie and Ali Campbell to hopefully get Jed back where we belong was really appealing.”

Meanwhile, former first XV captain Neil Cook will become Jed’s new team manager.

Cook played nearly 300 games for Jed until retiring through injury.
